What is the design trick for formatting a perfect Tri-Fold brochure?
When designing a classic Tri-Fold layout, the panels cannot all be the exact same width. The interior flap that folds inside must be roughly 2mm to 3mm narrower than the outer front and back panels. If they are completely identical, the inner edge will bunch up, buckle, and prevent the entire brochure from laying flat when closed.
Why is pre-scoring/creasing so important on thick artpaper?
If you try to fold a heavy printed piece of artpaper (150gsm and above) without pre-scoring it, the fibers of the paper will snap along the ridge line. This leaves an ugly, jagged white line across your images and text where the ink has peeled away. At PrintShopKE, we use heavy mechanical creasing wheels to compress the fibers safely before folding to ensure flawless, solid color folds.
What is the difference between a Tri-Fold and a Z-Fold layout?
A Tri-Fold bends two outer sections inward over a central panel, creating an enclosed envelope fold. It is perfect for a structured presentation where data is read step-by-step. A Z-Fold opens like a concertina or accordion sheet, creating an alternating 'Z' shape. This layout is preferred when your content includes wide graphics, sprawling maps, or long continuous timelines that look best when stretched open fully.
