How to Safeguard You and Others from COVID-19

It seems like years have passed since the first case of COVID-19 was reported in the country. Time has passed, and thousands of patients later, the pandemic is still affecting people and their families.

However, staying hidden in our homes is no longer an option. Moving forward and striving to remain safe is the only option we have. Businesses have begun to open up, people have gone back to work, and life is almost normal. It is, therefore, the responsibility of every person to stay safe and keep others safe as well.

This article outlines some of the best and effective ways to stay safe and protect those around you.

Practices for Staying Safe

  • Maintain a distance of at least 1.5 meters between you and others

Social distancing is an intricate part of protecting yourself and others from COVID. It is necessary to reduce the risk of infection when others sneeze or cough. Ensure that you are at least one meter apart from others outdoors. Inside, strive for even more space because of the little air circulation. Enclosed public spaces spread the disease faster. Watch out if you are in line at a supermarket or bank.

  • Wear a protective face mask

It would be best if you made wearing a mask around other people ordinary. Masks can be uncomfortable the first few times you wear them. However, you are sure to get used to it after a few times. Whenever you go into public space, wearing a mask has to be around people and ensure that you wear a mask. Follow the effective rules of wearing a mask properly as well. Ensure that your hands are clean before wearing the mask. Ensure that it covers your nose, mouth, and chin.

  • Wash and sanitize your hands regularly

Washing and sanitizing your hands will eliminate any germs (including viruses) on your hands. You must wash your hands with soap and water (preferably warm). Be sure to scrub for at least ten seconds, paying attention to your fingers, nails, and the back of your hands. Another way to kill germs is sanitizing. Sanitizing is the best alternative to washing your hands on the go. Since you cannot walk around with a hand washing station everywhere you go, you should carry a portable bottle of sanitizer to help keep your hands clean. Apply the sanitizer onto your hands and spread evenly.

  • Avoid touching your face

This is one of the more challenging activities that must now become a culture. Your hands touch many surfaces and things. They pick up a lot of germs, and you may not always remember to sanitize. Your hands could transfer the virus to your body when you touch your eyes, nose, or mouth. Therefore, avoid touching your face, and if you really have to, sanitize your hands first.

  • Clean and disinfect surfaces regularly

Surfaces carry germs, so it is always advisable to clean and disinfect surfaces. Pay attention to regularly-touched items in the house, such as taps, remote controls, phones, and door handles. Such items see a lot of hands and harbor germs that cause other diseases other than COVID-19.
